Amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (crossed eyes) are closely related, but different eye conditions. Strabismus, characterized by eye misalignment, occurs when one eye deviates from the other. Amblyopia is the lack of development of clear vision in one or both eyes for reasons other than an eye health problem that cannot be improved with glasses alone. Both conditions are functional vision problems which result from poor development of eye teaming.
Although Strabismus and Amblyopia are not the same condition or diagnosis, they do sometimes occur at the same time or one can cause the other. Vision Therapy is effective treatment for both of these conditions. Vision Therapy utilizes tailored exercises, specialized lenses, and therapeutic activities to improve eye coordination and focus by targeting the brain and nervous system. By reinforcing neurological pathways, it corrects eye misalignment and enhances the integration of images from both eyes into a cohesive 3D perception.
