Brain Injury Vision Assessments & Recovery Therapy

Two-thirds of all nerves entering the brain originate from the eyes, making visual processing disruption common in head injuries. Acquired brain injuries can impact various aspects of life, with as many as 3.6 million concussions reported annually from diverse causes. Concussions can induce temporary or long-lasting vision-related symptoms, often overlooked during initial medical assessments. Expert visual evaluation and treatment are crucial post-injury as vision problems can underlie physical, behavioral, and cognitive changes. Double vision, visual field loss, balance disorders, light sensitivity and visual information processing dysfunction is common after brain injuries, potentially hindering recovery if left untreated. A comprehensive visual system evaluation is necessary to see if lenses or vision rehabilitation is needed for these patients.
